October 30

In two days, Team 1922 embarks on a mission to share God’s love and administer eye care. As 2 Corinthians 5:21 reminds us, “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” I am told God has assignments for us, and through God, we are equipped to be someone’s miracle.  Whether it is a kind word, serving your church, or giving your time, know that we are God’s ambassadors. So let’s work together to carry out God’s work and miracles!

All the team members made it safely to Germany! When we arrived at the airport we had to say our goodbyes as most of us have different flights. The Detroit people, Lorrie, and myself celebrated together one last time by having breakfast at a traditional bakery. We are all so thankful for all the new friendships we have made with each other and also the Ethiopian people.

Today was our last day in Ethiopia. After staying another night in Addis, we spent the morning with Pastor Bahiru and his family. We enjoyed coffee and homemade snacks that his family graciously prepared. Afterwards we toured Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral. Once we finished the tour, we went shopping at a local market where everyone enjoyed finding souvenirs and coffee. For dinner we ate at a Greek restaurant. Tonight we will begin our flights home. See everyone soon!

This morning we got to explore Hawassa before making our trip back home. We first went to a beautiful park and saw monkeys, birds, and another lake! After that we visited a fish market where locals were untangling fish from nets and preparing them for people to buy. The rest of the day was spent on a bus traveling back to Addis. We are all safe and healthy thanks to all your prayers and God’s never ending love.

Today was our last clinic day! The rest of the school and staff members received eye glasses and sun glasses. At the end of the day we packed up the glasses one last time. The school staff also gave each of the team members scarfs that were made by locals! We are all thankful for this wonderful journey and all the new friends we have made.

Travel day #3

We safely made it to Hossana today. On our way to our new destination we had our daily morning devotion. We also sang and signed several songs!! We had an early lunch at a beautiful resort and a couple monkeys decided to join us. Snacks, naps, and good books got us through the rest of our trip. We ate supper at our hotel restaurant and had to get creative with lighting when the power went out. Our night devotion and more songs finished off our day. We are so excited to be on this journey and can’t wait to spread more of God’s love tomorrow as we have our 4th clinic.

Today we had our second clinic. The clinic was at a deaf school and we served 182 kids.We not only got to give them glasses but we signed songs and played games. The children were so sweet and even taught us sign language. Our wonderful day with them made it very difficult to leave, but we are so happy we got to put a little joy in their lives.
